About Sultan Ali Khan

Background as Academic, Professional, Entrepreneur, Writer.

Personal Life

Sultan is from a mixed family, with a Swiss mother (Jaun) and a Pakistani father (Ali Khan) (Ghori).  He went to Karachi Grammar School and then attended the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) studying Electronic engineering.  Having refocused his studies he received a BBA (Finance & Marketing) from South Eastern University.  Next he got the MA (Econ) Finance degree from University of Manchester, having the coveted Five Star research rating in Finance.  Sultan did not do a PhD, as academic expertise in Islamic Finance & Economics was limited then.

My Story

Sultan worked in the investment banking division of a major American bank focusing on emerging markets, based out of London.  He quickly rose through the ranks and went on to head the corporate banking of a regional bank, based out of Dubai.  He has held senior banking roles and was part of credit and interest rate setting committees.  His practical experience in corporate, investment banking and senior management roles provide a unique insight into the modern banking and financial sector’s working.
Sultan taught at American University of Dubai, IITM (external affiliate of London School of Economics), along with at other institutions in Dubai.  Teaching facilitated deeper insight into the subjects, which supplemented his practical experience.  He also successfully started and ran a green field manufacturing business and has been involved in various forms of trading.
Already as a child, Sultan was fascinated by religion, keenly studying comparative religions, in search for truth.  Further to major world religions, Sultan’s focus was on Abrahamic religions, reading the Bible (focusing on the Old Testament and Gospels) and researching the Quran and Hadith throughout his adulthood.
This combination of modern academic knowledge, practical experience and research of the Quran and Hadith have allowed him to attain a special level of expertise in Islamic Finance, Trade & Economics.
Sultan witnessed the positive social and financial effects amongst acquaintances that shunned the Riba system; realigning their lifestyles to Islam’s financial edicts.
