Do you know the serious consequences of measuring less weight of a product, in Islam? (God’s proposed structure – part 9)
[84. And to the people of Madyan (We sent) their brother Shuayb. He said: “O my people! Serve Allah, you have no deity but Him, and diminish not the measure or weight. I see you are prospering but indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a Day all-encompassing.” 85. “O my people! Give full measure and full weight justly and defraud not the people from their things that are their due, and do not make mischief in the land, spreading corruption.”] [Quran Surah Hud 11 Ayat 84-85]
[91. So the earthquake struck them and they lay prostrate in their homes. 92. Those who denied Shuayb, became as though they had never resided there. Those who denied Shuayb, they were the losers. 93. Then he (Shuayb) turned away from them and said: “O my people! I have certainly conveyed to you my Lord’s Messages and I gave you good advice. Then how can I be sorry for an unbelieving people.”] [Quran Surah Al-Araf 7 Ayat 91-93]
So in an Islamic Economy it is the duty of the seller to give full weight of the proper quality product, without any adulteration. This element of trust is critical to ensure optimal setting of equilibrium prices and utilisation of resources.
