From a health and environmental perspective, should the dairy farmer sell the milk to a wholesale distributor at the farm, or directly to the clients in the city? (Case Study 1 – Part 3/3)
1. Write your view of what the Health and Environmental considerations suggest in the comments below: “Wholesale Distributor” or “City Client”. Then read till the end for the answer.
2. The fresh produce is from the immediate surroundings and hence in harmony with the environment and that region’s nutritional cycle.
3. The fresh product is not processed or adulterated, has no additives, preservatives and chemicals. It is wholesome and naturally nutritious.
4. Receiving the full milk product, means you also get the full fat of the milk, to make fresh butter, cheese, yogurt, milk drinks etc.
5. In the not too distant past, there was a complete chain for delivering fresh milk directly from the farm to the city client’s doorstep, twice a day. Both in the first and third world countries. It used to be done and should be done.
Therefore from a Health and Environmental perspective, the dairy farmer should be selling the milk directly to the clients in the city, and not be forced to sell the milk to the wholesale distributor at the farm.
